Learning Support

Learning Support and Enrichment

At Al Sadiq College, we believe that every student is capable of learning, if the curriculum is differentiated to suit their needs. The College Learning Support Department aims to cater for the diverse needs of all students.

Additional support and opportunities are provided for students with:

  • Special learning needs and disabilities
  • Social /Emotional needs
  • EAL/D students (students whose first language is a language or dialect other than Standard Australian English, who require additional support)
  • Students who require a more enriched program of learning (Gifted and Talented students).

Learning support and Enrichment occurs as a multi-tiered system of support, according to student need:

  • As a whole class (work is differentiated by the classroom teacher in consultation with the Learning Support Department)
  • In a small group setting
  • As a 1:1 session

Students who require additional support in their learning, receive a range of assistance, including in-class support; support during practical lessons; assistance during excursions and/or specialised intervention (eg MiniLit; MultiLit; MacqLit; Reinforced Reading; Word Attack Skills).

Students are supported as needed, throughout a range of subjects, including Arabic.

Enrichment / Gifted & Talented students receive extension through a range of methods:

  • Through small group enrichment sessions – focusing on Writing, Literature study, problem solving, STEM
  • By entering a variety of events/competitions – Da Vinci Decathlon; Write a Book in a Day; ICAS; and a variety of other National and State competitions

The College applies Gagné's Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent, and defines giftedness as not an indication of performance or achievement, but of potential.

The Learning Support Department consists of a Head of Learning Support/Enrichment K-12; Learning Support Coordinator K-12; Learning Support Teachers and Learning Support Assistants. All staff work across both Yagoona and Greenacre Campuses according to student needs.
